Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehab Center opened in 1979 as a long term care, nursing home and rehabilitation center focused on helping restore the health, strength and quality of life for thousands in Northern Virginia and Washington, DC. Our 130-bed facility is part of a professional neighborhood medical community including physicians’ offices and the nationally recognized INOVA Mount Vernon Hospital.

Is MVNRC Medicare and/or Medicaid certified?

Yes, Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehab Center is certified by Medicare and Medicaid as well as other private health insurance companies. The Social Security Act mandates the establishment of minimum health and safety and CLIA standards that must be met by providers and suppliers participating in the Medicare and Medicaid programs.

Our team of professional nurses, therapists, social workers and activities specialists working under the direction of MVNRC administrators, provides outstanding nursing care and assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).

Yes, Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehab Center has a robust activities program including performances by guest musicians and children, ice cream socials, monthly birthday parties, pet visits, and the all-time favorite, BINGO! Is there a Medical Director on staff at Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehab Center?

Yes, Dr. Carlene Tylenda is the Medical Director at Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehab Center and either she or one of the doctors from the Mt. Vernon Internal Medicine Group is on site 5 days a week.

Physicians frequently order diets individualized by nutrient and calorie content and/or texture. Special diets are prepared under the supervision of a Registered Dietician. If necessary, the Registered Dietician will provide advice and/or instructions pertaining to nutritional meal planning at the time of discharge from MVNRC.

Will I have daily rehab sessions?

Yes, patients recovering from joint replacement, fractures, trauma, cardiac conditions, stroke or other neurological impairments who require rehabilitative services following their hospital stay will have a regular (daily) rehab schedule. Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehab Center’s rehabilitative treatments may include speech, physical, or occupational therapy, depending on the nature and severity of the condition. In addition to prescribed therapies, we also offer a wide range of social and recreational activities to complement each individual’s therapeutic care plan.

Can I bring my personal belongings to Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehab Center?

Yes, families are encouraged to make the Resident’s room more homelike by bringing in pictures, photographs, plants, a favorite blanket or pillow and other small items. All personal items, as well as clothing, should be labeled with the Resident’s name. Please allow our maintenance engineer to hang all pictures.

Does Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehab Center provide on-site dialysis?

No, Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehab Center does not provide on-site dialysis however; we can provide information on local facilities that provide this service.

What are the visiting hours at Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehab Center?

Family members and visitors are welcome at Mt. Vernon Nursing & Rehab Center 24 hours per day/7 days a week. However, to ensure Residents privacy during morning and evening care and in order to preserve their dignity, MVNRC suggests the best time to visit their loved one is from 8am to 8pm.

Mt. Vernon Nursing & Rehab Center’s liability insurance carrier requires that all visitors and volunteers be asked to sign in and out. This is for everyone’s protection. In the event of an emergency, officials must know that everyone in the building is accounted for.

Do I need to have my admissions paperwork completed at time of admission?

Yes, all admissions paperwork needs to be completed and submitted to Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehab Center within 24 hours of admission.

Does Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehab Center provide post discharge in-home rehab services?

Yes, Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehab Center recently introduced its Vitality at Home Program that provides continuing rehab therapies after a patient leaves our Center. Services include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Language Pathology therapies. Specific programs include:
